- High-efficiency appliances: choosing appliances with energy class A+ or higher helps reduce energy consumption and limit environmental impact;
- Wood heating: using wood from the surrounding forests for heating and hot water production is a sustainable solution that utilizes local resources;
- Wood-fired sauna and hot tub: even for relaxation, we choose sustainable solutions, using only wood from our forests to power the sauna and hot tub.
Organic farming and biodiversity
- Organic garden: the production of organic, zero-kilometer food ensures freshness, reduces the environmental impact of transportation, and supports local agriculture;
- Planting and creation of a biodiversity microcosm: planting 4000 plants in a few years has helped create a living microcosm, rich in biodiversity and capable of mitigating the effects of climate change. Our Emotional Garden of the Feather Trails, which hosts the evocative emotional trail in the woods, are spaces dedicated to environmental education and awareness;
- Food forest: the creation of a food forest is an ambitious project aimed at creating a self-sufficient food ecosystem, promoting biodiversity and preserving ancient varieties;
- Water: rainwater harvesting and the use of artesian well water for garden irrigation reduce the consumption of drinking water and preserve water resources; furthermore, we invite guests to drink tap water as we do and provide them with special glass bottles.
Ecological materials and products
- Ecological cleaning products: the use of cleaning products made with natural and organic ingredients limits pollution and protects health;
- Reduction of plastic: here at La Gualda Vecchia, we are committed to minimizing the use of plastic, favoring recyclable materials and promoting the use of glass;
- Handicraft and local materials: whenever possible, we choose the work of local artisans and artists, as well as local raw materials, furnishings, and tableware: we prefer second-hand items or purchase from Tuscan factories and artisans, which we often visit personally before choosing;
- Outdoor eco-dry toilet: for external guests visiting us to see the garden or participate in one of our activities, we have chosen to install a Kazuba dry toilet: they are truly revolutionary and environmentally friendly as they operate using solar and wind energy, without water, electricity, or chemicals. With an ecological design and made from 100% recyclable materials, what makes a dry toilet like Kazuba an excellent solution for sustainability is that the sun's heat and a gentle breeze are enough to create a continuous airflow that dehydrates solids and evaporates liquids, reducing the need for emptying and preventing odors.

- Environmental education: through the creation of nature-dedicated spaces and the organization of educational activities, we promote environmental education and awareness on topics such as sustainability and respect for the environment;
